Johnson, Johnson, Whittle, Lancer & Staggs has practised from one office in downtown Aiken since 1980. We represent clients throughout Aiken County and appear regularly in the county and municipal courts listed below.
Aiken County
Most of our clients live and work in Aiken County. We handle personal injury, criminal defense, and family law matters for people in Aiken, North Augusta, Graniteville, Belvedere, Clearwater, Burnettown, Warrenville, Langley, Bath, Beech Island, Jackson, New Ellenton, Wagener, Windsor, Salley, Monetta, and the surrounding communities.
North Augusta
North Augusta sits about 17 miles from our office, at the Aiken County line on the Savannah River. We appear in North Augusta Municipal Court and handle cases for North Augusta residents in the county courts in Aiken. More about our work in North Augusta.
Where Aiken County Cases Are Heard
Most Aiken County cases are heard at the Aiken County Judicial Center, 109 Park Avenue SE — a few blocks from our office on Pendleton Street. The Circuit Court, Family Court, Probate Court and Clerk of Court all sit in that building.
- Court of Common Pleas — civil claims, including personal injury and wrongful death
- General Sessions Court — felony criminal cases
- Family Court — divorce, custody, and support
- Probate Court — estates, guardianship, and conservatorship
- Magistrate and Municipal Courts — misdemeanors, traffic offences, and bond hearings, held at locations across the county including Aiken, North Augusta, and Midland Valley
Federal matters are heard at the Charles E. Simons, Jr. Federal Courthouse in Aiken or elsewhere in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. Workers’ compensation claims go before the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission rather than a county court.
